Due to the success of the Year 2 and Year 6 Reading Buddy scheme, which we began in the Autumn Term, we have now extended the scheme to involve Year 1 and Year 5. As Year 6 are familiar with the routine, they have transferred their skills to read with Year 1 and Miss Sophie and Miss Nicola have guided some of the Year 5 children to help them begin reading with Year 2.
We started today and all of the children involved really enjoyed it! Reading Buddies help to develop responsibility, empathy and focus in the older children, whilst giving the younger children an opportunity to read to a wider range of people and practise even more regularly.
Fostering links between the older and younger students is a wonderful thing to see and further strengthens our school community.
