On a rainy Wednesday, 10 December, we took three teams of eight students from Years 7, 8 and 9 to Aloha College for the inaugural inter-school “Mathletics” competition. This all-day event combined mathematical problem-solving with athletics.
The students participated in four activities throughout the day, including a variant of Countdown involving basketball, a mathematical obstacle course, and a relay race. After a break for lunch, the finale was a tough 45-minute team problem-solving challenge.
Although the mathematics was challenging, the students spoke positively about the event and how much they had enjoyed it. They were a credit to the school and to themselves, and a few have even asked whether a similar event will be held next year (we hope so!).
The Year 9 EIC team secured the gold medal as the best-performing Year 9 team and earned certificates to showcase their achievement. Massive congratulations to them - the competition from the other schools was fierce!
Well done to all the students involved for their participation, perseverance and positivity.
