December heralds the return of Spelling Bee season, with thrilling finals across the years.
Year 7
An electrifying final saw the Year 7 competitors battle tough words like deceitful, pulmonary and putrefaction. The last three kept the audience on edge well into break but Blas nailed gladiatorial to claim the crown. A sensational contest - huge congratulations to champion Blas, and to outstanding runners-up!
Year 8
The Year 8 Spelling Bee competitors delivered high drama. Defending champion George faced fierce competition but prevailed again, beating tricky words such as supercilious, jacaranda and obstreperous. The final three were Federico, Samuel and George; George emerged victorious once more - becoming the school’s first student to retain the Year 8 title! Massive well done to runner-up Federico and Samuel for an epic fight.
Year 9
The Year 9 Spelling Bee competitors brought fierce energy. The former champions returned hungry for more. As time ran out, Phillip and Danny remained flawless, spelling every word perfectly. They were crowned joint Year 9 Champions 2025 - a fitting result. Brilliant effort from all!
Year 10
The Year 10 Spelling Bee competitors produced nail-biting tension, with three past winners in the mix. Words like subterranean, metatarsal and thalamus proved brutal. The final came down to Karyna and Sebastian. A momentary confusion arose when Karyna heard “mitochondria” instead of “mitochondrion”; after clarification and an extra chance, both remained unbeatable. They were declared joint champions - Sebastian now the second student ever to win the title twice. Thoroughly deserved by two outstanding spellers!
Huge congratulations to every finalist; the standard was exceptional throughout Key Stages 3 and 4!
