Our Year 9 Physics students visited the wind farm in Campillos, where students learned about the impressive technology behind wind energy. They observed wind turbines over 85 metres in size that convert wind into electricity using rotor blades 65 metres in length connected to a generator. Students were offered the opportunity to enter the structure and observe from inside the technology and engineering that allows us to harness energy from wind.
The guide explained how this renewable energy source helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on fossil fuels and will provide clean and sustainable energy for the future. Students also discussed the benefits, such as employment opportunities and low operating costs, alongside drawbacks like visual impact on the landscape, noise, impact on wildlife such as migrating birds, and the fact that wind energy depends on weather conditions.
The visit offered valuable insight into the future of clean energy and environmental responsibility and allowed our students to understand first hand what has been learned in lessons through our Science curriculum.
