Schools Cross Country Championships 2023

After an initial suspension due to torrential rain and flooding, the International Schools Cross Country Championships finally took place on Wednesday 15th February. St Anthony’s had prepared a fantastic 1km course over a plethora of terrains and inclines to produce a challenging route for all abilities. Races over 2km, 3km and 4km pitted each of the year groups to their limit!

Following on from St Valentine’s Day, few can deny the historic romance of little against large. David v Goliath, 400 students versus over a 1000 but these are the odds against our own valiant EiC lion-hearts.

Yet, over and over again despite the numerical disparity, we dominated the top 10 and delivered podium finishes on a disproportionate basis to our bespoke size.

Over the course of a truly outstanding and mesmerising day, EIC were to triumph in individual races and year group categories on multiple occasions. Not since 2020 has it even been possible to hold this event and to see the gap between first and second reduced to just 6 points is of huge credit to all of our tenacious runners and their dedication and commitment to departmental sessions, both before and after school.

Special mention to Marsha, Mario, & Millie for setting new course records! Congratulations to ALL EIC runners for a sensational performance and team effort over a fantastic day. Special thanks to Alfonso & St Anthony’s for hosting such a safe, smooth and scintillating event. Our indebted thanks to everyone who took part. P.E. Department
