Drama - Salón Varietés Theatre Trip

Drama - Salón Varietés Theatre Trip

After a long 20 month absence, the students were excited to finally be able to see live theatre once again! On the evening of Thursday 21st October, the Year 10 and 11 GCSE students and Year 12 A-Level students attended a performance of the Salón Varietés’ production of the award winning Broadway musical Little Shop of Horrors, perfectly timed on the eve of EIC's Halloween celebrations.

Becoming theatre critics for the night, the performance would allow them to prepare for the written components of the syllabus as this quirky, science fiction, comedy musical provided lots of visual and aural stimulation with catchy musical numbers, the use of puppetry and magical colours of lighting.

The students were also lucky to have a Q&A session with the puppet designer and director of the play immediately after the performance, giving them plenty of opportunity to find out how certain elements had been put together as well as their intentions and vision, giving them some valuable insider information.

A fantastic evening was had by all and it was a great reminder of how important live performance is and the magic that can be created in a theatre. We are already looking forward to the next performance!
