Italy Trip

Italy Trip

Year 9 and 10 students had an excellent time visiting classical sites in Napoli and Rome last week. They learned about the volcanic eruption in 79AD that destroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum (amongst other towns) and were able to visit the well-preserved archaeological remains of these towns and to see first-hand how the people there were living almost 2000 years ago. It was moving for all of us to see the skeletons and casts of bodies of some of the people killed in this tragedy. We then had the opportunity to climb the dormant volcano Vesuvius itself! Due to weather conditions, the view from the top was not particularly impressive.

We also had the chance to sample some traditional Neapolitan pizza and, of course, gelato. In Rome, we visited sites such as the Colosseum, Vatican City, Sistene Chapel, Trevi Fountain and Pantheon.

The students were fantastic throughout and a great time was had by all.
