PTA Newsletter 2024 - 2025

What do you get when you mix creativity, chaos, candy, and community spirit? That’s right – another unforgettable year with the PTA! With "Resilience" as the school theme, we decided to fully embrace it — not only in the face of uncooperative weather and questionable glitter decisions, but also as our unofficial motto when running events on four hours’ sleep and three cups of PTA-strength coffee.

Spooktacular

We kicked off the academic year in style — not with a bang, but with a “Welcome Back Coffee Morning” in October that turned into an impromptu brainstorming session (because caffeine = ideas). Fueled by croissants and overly ambitious Pinterest boards, we hatched plans for our now-legendary Spooktacular Halloween Event. And what a spooky spectacle it was! Our Primary students got their freak on at the Halloween Disco, while volunteers-turned-ghoul-architects transformed ordinary gazebos into the “Tunnel of Terror” — think haunted house, but portable, and with more sugar-fueled shrieking. Jump scares lurked at every corner and enough candy was distributed to ensure dentists across town stayed busy for the rest of the year. Proceeds from our ghostly gala went toward much-needed upgrades to the Primary playground and mud kitchen area.

It’s Christmas!!!

As the year rolled toward December (and the PTA started to run purely on mince pies), we were suddenly Santa’s Naughty Elf Consultants. We purchased a giant game for Primary, which the elves promptly disassembled and sneakily stashed in every classroom for a month of festive scavenging. Because why not add chaos to Christmas?

December also saw the return of our PTA Christmas Show, hosted by our very own rising stars Elina and Bryan, who navigated the stage with all the grace and charisma of seasoned pros. From heartwarming singers to dazzling dancers and spirited thespians, the show was a resounding success. A special tea was held for performers and helpers on the night plus a christmas treat for all involved

Next came our Movie Party, arranged in support of the Student Council and awarded to the tutor group who created the year’s most fantastic Christmas music video. Rumour has it Spielberg called. We declined — we had the Christmas Fayre to plan! Complete with silly games, delicious treats, and even an appearance from the Big Man himself (Santa, not the Headteacher), it was festivity at its finest. We ended the term with a Christmas Disco, where students danced like nobody was watching (except the PTA, who were definitely watching... from behind the DJ table, with admiration and aching feet).

Hearts and Helium

Valentine’s Day swept in next, hearts and helium in tow. For Secondary, we introduced a Short Story of Love competition. The entries? Utterly swoon-worthy. The winner? Year 13’s very own Brigitte, who wrote something so moving we’re still pretending it was just “dust in our eyes.” Everyone who entered received a treat — because who says heartbreak shouldn’t come with chocolate? Meanwhile in Primary, we threw a “Day of Love” with bouncy castles, music, bubbles, face painting, and enough fun valentines themed arts and crafts to fill even Cupid’s calendar.

Easter Eggstravaganza

Then came Spring and with it our Easter Eggstravaganza — an annual test of our pun tolerance and our sugar stamina. Secondary students rose to the occasion with an Egg Decorating Competition, where masterpieces like “Gleggda and Eggphaba” took centre stage (and a few Instagram feeds). Chocolate treats were delivered to all secondary tutor groups, solidifying our reputation as the Tooth Fairy’s natural nemesis. For Primary, the weather was as cooperative as a toddler with a glue stick, but did we panic? No. We pivoted! Easter in the Main Hall was born, with the Easter Bunny himself hopping in for a bit of music, dancing and eggstremely silly games (we warned you about the puns). While the egg hunt was off the cards, baskets of chocolate ensured no one left feeling short-changed.

Tears, Cheers & Beach Vibes

April brought study leave and tears (from students, parents, and teachers alike). To mark this important transition, we organised a Leavers' Breakfast for our Year 11 students and their families, and then treated the cohort to a final bonding experience at Adventure Amazonia and finsihed with a donation towards their graduation dinner. For Year 13, we added a breakfast send-off followed by ice creams and beach-themed fun, because nothing says farewell quite like frisbee, paddleboarding on giant boards and SPF 50. We also gave a large donation towards their graduation dinner.

Pièce de Résistance

Then came May and our pièce de résistance: the Iconic Summer Fiesta. We went bigger, bolder, and wetter — thanks to the addition of a foam party! The Big Raffle saw a fantastic range of prizes from J Lo tickets, Restaurant Vouchers to Hotel stays and entries into the top local attractions. From face painting to food, a tombola to the Big Raffle, and performances ranging from Primary popstars to Secondary superstars, it was truly an Iconic day to remember. Sunburns faded, but memories (and foam) lingered.

House Day Party

In June, as the finish line came into view and everyone’s energy was held together with glitter glue and optimism, House Day brought colour, camaraderie, and chaos. We rewarded every Secondary student with an ice cream — partly as a thank-you, partly as a way to lure them into handing back their house T-shirts. Genius.

Disco Fever & Farewell to Year 6

As the final week hit us like a rogue dodgeball, we managed to fit in two more Discos (because what’s one more playlist?) and bid farewell to our Year 6 Graduates with a special breakfast celebration. Their parents teared up. We teared up. Mostly because we realised it meant we were going to have to plan it all again next year.

Curtains Down, Spirits Up

And so, as we close the curtain on another madcap year of madness, magic, and marvellous memories, we want to say thank you — to the volunteers, the teachers, the students, the parents, and anyone who’s ever bought a raffle ticket, baked a cake, or held a gazebo pole in 40mph winds. Because of you, we’ve raised enough funds to plan even bigger things: More toys for the Primary playground, Interactive tables for Infants, Reading hut upgrades, Refectory games, Outside equipment for Secondary, Sewing machines,A LARGE bouncy castle (Secondary students, rejoice) And a major investment in a brand-new STEM project that’s so exciting, it’s practically buzzing with potential (stay tuned!).

With resilience, humour, and a bit of duct tape, we've weathered another wild year together. Here's to doing it all again next year — but with more snacks and fewer glitter explosions.

Yours in glitter, foam, and fabulousness,
The PTA Team
