Key Stage 1

Stepping Stones

Aimed at students in Key Stage 1 (aged 5-7 years old), the Stepping Stones programme has been designed to help students immerse themselves in the English language and fill any curriculum content gaps in their knowledge that they may have.

At EIC, we firmly believe in the individual learning journey of each child and Stepping Stones creates a pathway for children to be able to confidently transition and meet the expectations of the school. Key Stage 1 is where children are exposed to the National Curriculum for the first time and there are a plethora of objectives and goals for children to aim for. Stepping Stones allows us to tailor the learning experience to the individual needs of each child, ensuring that they are able to access the National Curriculum with confidence and a good foundation of knowledge and understanding.

Students are taught in small groups of no more than six by our fully qualified and experienced Stepping Stones Coordinator, Miss Debra. The focus of the programme is English and Maths and the lessons are timetabled in the mornings. Children are assigned to a class and a class teacher, and will take part in all other subjects with their peers. Initially, students will follow the programme 5 days a week, but as they progress, this will begin to be reduced until it is evident that they are ready to cope with the curriculum full-time in the main classroom.

It is important to us that children in our care are well-rounded, well-supported and confident to be able to navigate not only environments where they feel comfortable, but also those where they need some extra help to reach their full potential. The EIC Stepping Stones programme can help them get there.
