A level Courses
Students
of proven academic merit and maturity are accepted into
the Sixth Form to take a two-year course, leading to
the General Certificate of Education at Advanced level
and Advanced Subsidiary level. The college offers courses
in the following GCE A and AS Level subjects:
| Mathematics |
English Literature |
| Physics |

| Biology |
German |
| Music |
French |
| Geography |
Drama & Theatre Studies |
| History |
Art & Design |
| Business Studies |
Economics |
| Computing |
Physical Education |
At this level students usually take four AS level
subjects of which three will be taken to A2 level
in Year 13. Most combinations are available, subject
to the constraints of the timetable. All students
in the Sixth Form (Years 12 & 13) participate
in either a programme of Physical Education or Health
and Fitness. All students follow a programme of extra-curricular
courses and activities which are designed to broaden
their awareness in topics of social and educational
interest such as critical thinking and problem solving,
politics, current affairs, philosophy, public speaking
and debating, drama and charity work.
Each A Level subject demands a considerable amount
of private study and Sixth Form students are allocated
time during the school day for private, supervised
study in the specially equipped Study Centre and may
use the College library research facilities.
Sports & Drama
Sixth Form students are fully involved in all areas
of sport and regularly field teams in inter-schools
competitions. The Sixth Form & Friends Show is
an annual event devised by the Sixth Form to display
musical, acting and dancing talents. This is a highlight
of the school calendar.
Technology
An on-going investment programme in new technologies
supports the academic curriculum in both Primary and
Secondary schools. The school boasts interactive whiteboard
technology throughout the school which facilitates
student-centred learning, on-line support and a vast
array of stimulating learning experiences.
University Entrance
In the second and third terms of Year 12, a comprehensive
programme of advice and help is given to all students
to prepare for university entrance. Full coverage
of the UCAS system for universities in the UK, including
Oxbridge entrance, as well as requirements for the
United States, Spain and other universities worldwide
is provided. Help is given individually by the Head
of Sixth Form, as well as in tutor groups and consists
of talks and lectures, ‘mock’ interviews,
information booklets, prospectuses, visits by guest
speakers and computer based programmes to enable students
to select appropriate courses.
The College is justifiably proud of its strong tradition
of university successes. Since our first A level examinations
in June 1985, we have placed students in some of the
most prestigious universities worldwide. Almost all
our students choose to continue their education at
university, studying for degrees ranging from Medicine,
Astrophysics and Law to Fine Art, Hispanic Studies
with Philosophy, Artificial Intellingence, Economics,
Mathematics, Physics, Geology and many others.
