Early Years and Primary School

The Primary School consists of fourteen newly refurbished, centrally heated and fully equipped classrooms, which open onto a spacious playground. Additional facilities include a large low-impact, safety-surfaced and well-shaded area equipped with climbing apparatus to enable the younger children to develop co-ordination skills through play. In addition, we are able to use the full range of Physical Education facilities. There is a support room in which small group work can take place. The Primary Department has a dedicated well-equipped ICT laboratory and access to the School Library. A range of practical equipment assists the teaching of all subjects. The school hall is available for Physical Education, Drama and assemblies. Health, comfort and safety are high on the agenda in the school and a recent inspection concluded that the standards of achievement in the Primary School were “very high”. All classrooms are equipped with the latest interactive whiteboards.

Secondary School

The Secondary School has specialist classrooms for English, Mathematics, Geography, History, Modern Languages, English as a Foreign Language, PE and Business Studies. For Science teaching, the college has four purpose-built laboratories extensively equipped to meet the requirements for teaching Physics, Chemistry and Biology up to University entrance level. There is also specialist hardware based on IBM compatibles enabling the teaching of Computer Studies up to A level. The Art and Design Studio has facilities for painting and drawing as well as sculpture. A purpose-built Art Studio is planned for the future.

There is large multi-purpose theatre/hall for accommodating assemblies, Drama, Dance, Music and Art exhibitions as well as providing extra winter sporting facilities. The hall seats up to 200 for theatre performances and boasts a control centre for sound, lighting and recording.

Ornamental Pond

The College has a well-stocked pond on the premises where amphibious wildlife and several varieties of fish are kept, providing a practical focus for Biology classes.

Sports Facilities

The College boasts the best sports facilities on the coast which are used by students of all ages and include a 25 metre competition size swimming pool, a learner pool, an Astroturf soccer pitch, two basketball courts, a volleyball court with a sprung surface and a long jump bay. There is a separate changing room and shower block situated adjacent to the playing fields and swimming pool.

Dining Facilities

There is a college dining room offering a set menu each day, compulsory for Primary children. Refreshments and meals may be bought in the cafeteria, which is open throughout the day and provides a unique atmosphere in which to meet informally. All catering is health based and prepared on the premises in newly equipped kitchens. No additive drinks are available.

Library

The school benefits from a purpose built computer based Library completed in 2004. The Library serves to contribute to the academic success of our pupils and to encourage the habit of reading for pleasure.

Development currently focuses on three areas:

  • Improvement of communication between the library and its users
  • Matching of resources to needs
  • Development of pupils’ library and information skills

The new, purpose-built building offers many features. The space is comprised of a class teaching area, a central computer area, a Primary School bay with floor cushions and carpet, a comfortable seating area for individual reading/study, toilets and a stock room. The Library is open throughout the school day. There is a full-time teacher librarian. Under the guidance of the librarian, classes are trained in the use of its facilities and in reference and research techniques. Senior students have access to the library at all times, whilst others have assigned times for private study or to borrow and return books.Students from the Secondary School may apply to become student librarians if they wish. An extensive overhaul and updating of stock is now in progress. An electronic library system is installed which directly connects all classrooms on the campus to the library index for ease of information sharing.
