Aztec Afternoon

On Wednesday 14th of April Year 4 held an Aztec afternoon. The parents were invited to look at the children's work and share some Aztec food.

We looked at the children's finished Aztec projects and the winners, voted for by the children, were announced. The winners were Maria Guerrero Arizon in 4D and Aaron Rodriguez Deb in 4S. The two runner up prizes were awarded to Peta Dixon in 4D and Jaime Escribano Llaño in 4S. All of the projects were fantastic!

On January 29th Year Four performed an assembly based on the 'Iron Man' by Ted Hughes.

‘The  Iron Man’ Year 4 Class Assembly

4S have been making robot heads for an assembly called The Iron Man. We used shiny paper and paint. What we did was we found a box to use and we taped it inside out and then we used silver paint to paint them. Afterwards we decorated our robot heads with shiny paper and paint. Then we used them in our assembly.

Year 4 performed a show on Friday 29th January 2010 called ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. Ella, from 4S was the Iron Man and Dylan P, from 4D was the dragon. Theo, from 4S, was Hogarth, a farmer’s son. There were loads of narrators and I was one too. It was a great show!

What a busy start it has been to the year!

Year 4  have been working hard since the start of the term and we would like to share some of the art work that we have produced.

Our topic for art this term is ´A Sense of Place´.  In this unit children have been exploring rural and urban landscape as a starting point for two-dimensional work. They have used shape, form, space, colour, texture and pattern to develop and communicate their ideas in a painting. The children have considered the ideas, methods and approaches of artists who have responded to landscapes in different ways. We have been looking at the landscape paintings of Lowry and Van Gough and discussed and compared them.

Some of the skills we have been developing include drawing with charcoal and applying a wash.

This term we will continue this unit and develop our ideas further using different media – watch this space!
