Spring Term
The Spring Term in the Early Years Class saw a visit from the Circus. We had to look for some animals in the woods and found a great variety of lions, tigers, elephants and bears who were all very happy to come and live in our circus for a while. They had comfortable straw beds and the children remembered to feed them every day. Our Circus topic came to an end with the children performing circus acts for the Reception Classes and their parents.
The children have had quite a few opportunities to cook and experiment with food and flavours. We have made fruit smoothies, chocolate crispies and vegetable soup. Most of them have really enjoyed eating what they have made. We have also planted carrot, tomato and cucumber seeds which we will hopefully be able to eat later in the year once they have grown. As cress seeds grow so quickly the children were fascinated to see the seeds grow and enjoyed looking at them through the magnifying glasses.
Leading up to Easter the children made some beautiful baskets and we had an egg hunt in the playground on the last day of term. The children, with the help of their parents, made some great bonnets, eggs and mini gardens for the Easter event and a great time was had by all. |

During the time leading up to Christmas the children worked very hard on all the festive activities. We made paper chains, which are really quite tricky for little hands, Christmas stockings, penguins, Father Christmas´ and many more exciting things. All of the children were confident on the stage performing their penguin dance for the show and then we had a wonderful Christmas party. |

The children have all settled in really well since September and have been enjoying many different activities based around the topic 'ourselves'. We have learned about different parts of our bodies and our families. The home corner was changed into a hospital, where the children acted out doctor’s visits and we had many bandaged arms and legs.
For Halloween assembly the children performed a song about 3 black cats. They were very brave as it was their first time on the stage in front of an audience. They had a great time making pumpkin lanterns and soup. |
