Visit to El Jinete
This half term Year 1 went on an exciting trip to the stables ‘El Jinete’ in La Cala. It was an action packed day, and through a range of activities the children learned about horses and how to care for them.
In our small groups we took turns to feed the horses hay, prepare a ´bran mash’ for their breakfast and use the correct brushes to groom their coats and manes. It was quite hard work, but very fun!
During the day we had a visit from a farrier, who showed us how to clean the horses hooves . We all watched very carefully, and at the end we touched the horse nail, it was DISGUSTING!
The highlight of the day was riding the actual horses. The children prepared themselves by putting on a hat and mounting the saddle. It was a little nerve racking at first for some, but in the end everyday enjoyed riding so much, they didn’t want to stop!
By the end of the day we were all exhausted but we had learned so much; what horses eat, how to take a horses temperature, how long horse’s teeth are and where they like to live.
We thanked the ladies at the stables for a great day, and hope we can go back again soon!
Below are some comments from the children on their day out, enjoy listening.
