| YEAR 7 TRIP TO TOLEDO AND CUENCA - 2001 |
|
On Monday, 18th June, I got up early at 6.45 am and left at 7.30 am. I arrived at Fuengirola train station at 7.45 am feeling very excited and met my friends. At 8.00 we said goodbye to our parents and went down to the train station. As we were just about to get on the train, the driver decided to play a joke on us and started to drive off! We ran after the train and the train driver stopped.
After the long six hour train journey, we stopped at Madrid train station, then caught a bus to Toledo, which took us about an hour.
When we got to Toledo, we waited outside the hotel to get the keys to our room. The hotel was called ‘El Greco’. It was named after a Spanish painter. When we got to our rooms we had an hour to sort ourselves out. We then went to the centre of Toledo and took a mini train around Toledo. I thought it was fascinating but unfortunately we couldn’t hear everything the driver was saying.
After that we went to a church to see a painting which was painted by El Greco. He was a very famous artist and our hotel was named after him. The picture was of a soldier who had saved many people’s lives. If you look closely at the painting you can actually see El Greco himself because he painted himself in it. If you want to know which one it is then just look for a guy in a painting that’s looking at you.
Afterwards we went back to the hotel, did some work then had an hour to get ready to go out. We went to a very nice restaurant and when we had finished our dinner we went back to the hotel, got ready for bed and went to sleep.
The next day we got up, had breakfast and went out. First we went to a place called El Alcazar. We saw a lot of weapons, suits of armour and learnt about many of the leaders.
After that we went back to the hotel and did some work on what we had done and had seen during the day. We then went back to our rooms and got ready to go to the restaurant. We came back to the hotel and then went to sleep.
In the morning we got up and had breakfast quite early because we were going to leave at 10.30.
That was basically it, apart from going to Cuenca but that’s another story! I think Toledo was fun but it was more for adults. I think the most boring bit of the trip was doing work, because we were on a trip. But then everyone thought it was boring doing work on the trip!

Oh yeah, we're going to see a pile of ancient broken down houses. That's what I thought, but after we ate our packed lunches and drank our juices, we went to the Roman Theatre. It wasn't broken down so much and some of my friends even acted on the stage. Then we walked to the Roman Circus. I was challenged to a fight and . . . I lost. But it wasn't the only fight because Mr Hiscox, the gladiator, took on lots of us. It was a hard fight and . . . WE WON!!! I think it was the best place we went on the whole trip.
