On Sunday 23rd June, the Year 7 group departed on a trip to Tarifa, led by a team of sixth formers. Ryan Seed, Katie Ireland, Kim Lesbirel, Lucie Lord, Sophie Lord and Natalie Wood decided upon the trip as part of an exam for Travel and Tourism. It was decided that the trip be purely activity based with no education involved whatsoever! We thought this would be a bit more popular than the average Geography trip!
We set off at 9.30am on Sunday morning, bound for the three day holiday. Everybody was in good spirits and we all looked forward to arriving at the camp site two hours later at 11am. Unfortunately the coach broke down, not once, but twice on the way and we found ourselves stranded, however the children were content with socialising and taking part in a quiz set out by the sixth formers.
Upon arrival at the camp site, the group began setting up their tents. It was a good job that we brought the children along with us to the trip otherwise our tents would not have been put up and we would have had to sleep under the stars! The Year 7 children knew more about pitching tents than we did!
Activities on the trip included two tournaments: football and basketball. The red (my team) won the overall tournament by far. Other activities included windsurfing, swimming, a visit to the mud baths, BBQ’s and team games.

Upon return to the EIC, the general feedback was that the trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all those involved with only one criticism: ‘the trip should have lasted longer’. I would like to say a special thank you on my behalf to Salem Mansuri for being, in my opinion the star of the football tournament. The other person I would like to mention is Jordan Ward-Vieira for being the best behaved and overall good sport. These two people should well have deserved prizes for their contribution, however due to the busy schedule, I was unable to attend the meeting in which the other group members chose their favourite participants and issued them with rewards.
Overall, the trip was a success in my eyes and I would be more than happy to accompany this group of children on future outings.
