THE SWIMMING GALA 2001
On the 27th & 28th of September EIC once again hosted the Interschool Swimming Gala. The other schools taking part were St.Anthony's, Sotogrande (first day only), Swans (second day only) and Aloha College. It soon became apparent that the EIC students, who had put a lot of work into training both during and after school in the preceding weeks, were about to reap the rewards of their labours. It only remained to be seen if they could beat their opponents by a greater margin than last year.

On the first day races were held for Years 8 to 13. Mr. Izatt, so beloved of his statistics (with good reason), has furnished the following table of results.

Year 8 Won 11 out of 12 races
Year 9 Won 7 out of 12 races
Year 10 Won 12 out of 12 races
Year 11 Won 11 out of 12 races
Year 12 Won 5 out of 12 races
Year 13 Won 9 out of 12 races

Out of 72 races St. Anthony's won 6, Sotogrande won 5, Aloha College won 6, EIC won 55

On the Friday it was the turn of the younger ones to show us what they could do. Well they managed an even more convincing victory taking first place in 44 out of 50 races (including 2 joint first places). The results by Year were as follows.

Year 3 Won 9 out of 10 races
Year 4 Won 9 out of 10 races
Year 5 Won 6 out of 10 races
Year 6 Won 10 out of 10 races
Year 7 Won 10 out of 10 races

The only slight on the proceedings is that, sadly, the following week, Mr. Izatt had to undergo major surgery to remove his smile.
