SCIENCE DEPT - YR 10 TRIP TO MALAGA 2003
As the students arrived at school on the 5th of June 2003 you could see the excitement on their faces about the science trip. The way they slumped to tutor and then came all the great happy faces that they couldn't keep inside. After registration everyone ran to the coach ready to go to the science museum but we soon realised that they only ran to get the back seat on the coach. Even before the coach left, everyone couldn't wait ‘till we got to McDonald’s.

Our first stop, that we were looking forward to, was the Crocodile Park. But the best thing about the park was the little man we had as a tour guide who could talk for Spain. The crocodiles did not seem very excited to have us there. We felt sorry for them as they live for ages but do nothing but lie there on each other and get hot. There were some rather large ones and some little babies but the girls liked the little goat that looked like Bambi. Once the little man had finished talking about the crocs he brought out a small croc that was muzzled and we all got to hold it and have a picture taken. The baby croc did not mind giving us its best side for each picture and looked very happy. Once we had thanked the man and had something to eat in the cafe we headed onwards to the science museum.

On arrival to the museum we found ourselves along side a very joyful looking Spanish school. The schools were taken into a room with very interesting looking stuff on a bench. After we got over that, we found ourselves listening to a woman talking who decided to split the two schools. So we got to go into a room with even more interesting stuff in, but what made this stuff better was the fact that we were actually told to TOUCH the stuff. Once split in groups, we began to investigate everything, discovering many interesting things. What three of us learnt is that James and Yusef conduct electricity, and found it funny using their gift to give others electric shocks.

One thing that kept a few people busy for a while were the mirrors and finding out how many weird things they could look like they were doing. After some time in the ‘hands-on’ room we were called to the experiment room. I believe that everyone thought that this part was going to drag on for ages and be very boring. We were right for the first few minutes until we began to see very interesting things. What a lot of people liked was the large metal ball that gave off electrical currents to us when we got close enough. The man who was demonstrating the experiments to us made it a laugh when he began to make girls’ hair stand on end and pick people from the class to go up and help him out. The best part was his magic tricks with water and making it change into many colours that amazed us all. What he did was to pour some water into a glass, then passed some electrical current through another jug of water. Then he poured that from different heights and made up the pH level in many different glasses. He did the same with some ink and wine.

Once that was over the part that we had most looked forward to since the beginning of the trip was not much of a big deal after the very funny man from the crocodile park, the ‘hands-on’ play room and the science display with a bit of magic in it. So when told we were going to McDonald’s it was not much of a big deal.

After a bit of food in McDonald’s and a walk around the mall we were on our way back to school where another great treat had already been prepared. It was parents evening!

We had a good time and it was definitely better than most of us thought. We hope to take part in some of those magic experiments in our science lessons in school.
